From Shabby to Chic #1

I think this may become a regular feature here ....

I've always loved the look of painted furniture and love the idea of customising pieces.
But I've never been brave enough to try it myself. My husband has painted one or two bits for me in the past (he's a carpenter so is good with that sort of thing.) But I really fancied giving it ago ...

so I have ...
I brought this sad looking bedside cabinet on Ebay (for the grand total of 99p!)
And I'm sure you'll agree it fits right in the category of "shabby"

Now for the Chic!

What do you think?
It's been sanded, primed and painted, it's had a shiny new knob and I've lined the shelf with some wallpaper from a Zoffany wallpaper book I acquired (I knew it would come in handy one day!)

I'm rather pleased with it myself. I had lots of fun painting it and I managed to keep the cost low. I did have to buy the paint and primer (but there's plenty left for other projects), the door knob was free from a stash my Dad had hidden way (thanks Dad!) and I brought the entire wallpaper book (it's huge and there is loads more scrummy designs) for £1.50 from my local Mini Scrapbox.

This little cutie has also come to live with us, Ebay purchase again, £3.50, it was already painted in this pretty blue shade. I think it's worth £3.50 of anyone money!
I love you little blue chair :) xxx

Any one else fancy joining me on my "From Shabby to Chic" adventure?

Love Katie xxx

  1. Great job - the little cabinet has worked out really well. If you want to make life even easier for yourself use Annie Sloans chalk paints, they require no primer or sanding down, just paint on top of the old brown varnish with one coat, and hey presto finished.

  2. Hey katie,
OMG you have done an amazing job with the bedsdide cabinet!! well done,it looks so sweet, this has inspired me with furniture!! and that little blue chair is gorgeous too!
    great post,
    Kate :)

  3. Hello sweet Katie! What a fabulous transformation! You did a beautiful job painting the cabinet and I love the wallpaper! Very creative and resourceful! The blue chair is beautiful. I love the color! So happy you got it for such a good price too! Have a lovely day sweetie! Love, Paula xo

  4. Hello! WOW!! it's amazing you've done a fabulous job!! Well worth the 99p!! I really do think it's lovely, and the chair is fab too! I keep meaning to have a go myself, I forever seeing cabinets, stools, chairs, etc, etc, at our local house clearance shop going for next to nothing, and often think how great they'd look painted up, but, sadly, I still haven't found the time, but when my little baby is a lil bit older i'm defo going to have a go! Marina xx

  5. Oh wow, the cabinet is beyond bootiful. Well done you! Love the blue chair too.

  6. What a fantastic new lease of life you have given little cabinet! Super job Katie and what a find for 99p, it's a great addition to your home! I drove passed a chair like yours, on the side of the road, all on its lonesome, when I left work the other day. Would it have been wrong of me to rescue it?? Truly wish I had RMxxx

  7. Hi Katie,Thank you for joining my blog.
What a transformation...impressive indeed! Did the bedside cabinet take you very long to do?

  8. Great transformation, I'm in the middle of giving some second-hand furniture a bit of a make-over too, the thing I dislike most is waiting for the paint to dry inbetween coats, but the finished results always make it worthwhile xxx

  9. Lovely job you've done with the cabinet!
Theres a paint product I've heard loads of ppl rave about called annie sloan aparently you dont need to sand or use primer etc ive a few items i need to tart up so must get some and give it a go.

  10. Fab job, well done! What a bargain you had on both items, love the blue chair! xx

  11. Nice job, you have reminded me that I need/want to paint my bedside tables as they could sure do with a face lift.
    xx Sandi

  12. What a makeover, that cabinet looks so pretty now! The chair is also very lovely. I think there is always something satisfying about giving something a re-do and a new lease of life :)

  13. Hi,and thanks for you lovely comment on my blog.
I love what you have done to that little cupboard! It's amazing what a lick of paint and some imagination will do.The chair is lovely too and an ebay bargain.Well done for snapping that up.
Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  14. I LOVE what you have done with the table. Very nicely done! It looks like it would go with just anything. And that beautiful little blue chair is very charming. The color is stunning. Good bargains all around.
Thanks for visiting me today. I am now also your follower! Nice to blog-meet you.

  15. I love the theme of your post, and you really did a great job with the painting. I find it incredible how cheap that dark wood furnture is, and it's lovely once it's transformed with paint and paper, as you've done. The chair is really cute - I adore that colour! Thanks for your comment on my red and white. I love blue, and have to push myself to go for red, but whenever I do, I really enjoy it!
